1.9 Reasonable Adjustments

If students require reasonable adjustments due to a disability, specific learning difference or long term health condition, they are advised to email wellbeing@london.edu to arrange an appointment to register with Student Wellbeing Services. Key provisions of the Policy relevant to faculty are outlined below:

  • The School has a legal duty to make reasonable adjustments to prevent disabled students from being disadvantaged. This duty is anticipatory and inclusive teaching practices (for example providing accessible materials such as recordings, captions or slides shared in advance) can help reduce barriers and may minimise the need for individual adjustments.
  • Students who require adjustments will typically have these formalised in a Summary of Reasonable Adjustments (SoRA), coordinated by Student Wellbeing Services.
  • Faculty do not need to independently approve significant changes to assessments; adjustments affecting assessment methods must be reviewed through the Alternative Assessments Panel, which includes the relevant Academic Director. Competence standards must be maintained, but assessment formats may be adjusted where appropriate.
  • Faculty may be consulted regarding responsive adjustment requests (for example, extensions to coursework deadlines) to support reasonable and appropriate outcomes.
  • If a student discloses a disability or appears to be struggling, faculty should refer them to Student Wellbeing Services to ensure appropriate support is offered.

You can find more information about how reasonable adjustments are arranged in the Reasonable Adjustments Arrangements Policy.
